EASY
HOLIDAY PLACE SETTING NAME CARDS |
| |
| |
Having special guests for a holiday
feast? Jazz up your table settings with beaded place
cards. We used size 11 seed beads, Kevlar (flat, strong beading
thread), size 10 beading needles, using the backstitch (see instructions
below). Make a tent out of card stock (we used some of my daughter's
watercolors). Draw the name lightly in pencil and bead with seed
beads using the backstitch.
Keep them simple or embellish to your hearts content! We used lovely
autumn leaves for the Thanksgiving card for Mike. On Sue's we used
those fancy scrapbooking scissors to make a decorative edge and
some larger glass beads to accent.
You can also apply this same idea to embellish a special Christmas
card. Add a star bead or a few seed beads for a flash of color to
a store-bought card. If you're feeling especially creative, bead
the entire Christmas card design from scratch!

Project Hint: Back Stitch or Running Stitch Instructions
This is a quick stitch for a more detailed design. Using about a
yard of thread on a beading needle, knot the end. Come up through
the fabric from the underside, pick up 4 beads, run them to the
end of the thread next to where the thread is coming up through
the fabric. Position them according to your design, insert the needle
back down through the fabric right next to the last bead on the
thread. Bring the needle back up through the fabric between the
second and third beads, run the needle through the third and fourth
bead. Pick up 4 beads and repeat. (Tip: You can add more than 4
beads at a time when you're needing to cover a long, straight, row.
If making a sharp curve you may want to pick up only 2 beads at
a time.)

ADORNING
ANGELS |
|
| |
Create your own angels using these
wonderful wing parts! Simply stack your beads
of choice on a head pin (or an eye pin if you would like to attach
a dangle to the bottom) add the wings and a bead for the head,
finish with a loop at the top and, voila! It doesn't get much
easier than that!

"STAY
OUTTA MY DRINK!" CUP COVERS |
|
| |
|
Beaded
cup covers are a great way to keep unwanted
debris from landing in your drink. We hemmed the edges of a
5 1/2" square of fun quilting fabric then beaded a simple edging
stitch around all the sides and added 3 strands of fringe to
each corner. |
|
The
fringe should contain heavier beads to weight down the corners.
Wonderfully fun and practical at barbecues and patio parties.
I keep a few in my camper for excursions into the great outdoors.
They pair up nicely with the bead and wire wrapped goblets
for a gift set. |

MEMORY
WIRE SPIRAL ORNAMENTS OR HOLIDAY WINDOW HANGINGS
|
|
| |
Cut
a length of bracelet size memory wire containing 2-3 complete circles.
Tip: Be sure to use heavy
duty wire cutters so as not to pit the blades, memory wire is quite
hard.
Form a small loop at the end of the wire. String the beads of your
choice onto the wire until you nearly reach the end leaving enough
wire to form another small loop at the top. To make the drop to hang
on the bottom loop, use a head pin or eye pin, stack desired beads,
make a small loop at the top and attach to the bottom loop of the
spiral.
To make a hanger for the top loop, you can either bead a hanger on
Soft Flex or simply use a holiday ribbon that matches your beads.
